Scarlatti

Since the three of us (Greg, Rachel and I) in Dr. Phang's studio have been assigned Scarlatti this semester: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OszPoxJO0gU

(It took me forever to write this short post because I couldn't decide which sonata needed to be heard most. (There are 550, and they are all fantastic! In fact I think you should listen to all of the others played by Pogorelich in the 'related videos' column.))

  1. I love how he plays all the notes so cleanly, yet he does not compromise the musicality of the piece. Having played Scarlatti, I know that it takes a lot of thought and experimenting when working on a piece.

  2. Phenominal! I can say that in the beginning stage, I did not like Scarlatti because he wrote 550 FREAKING SONATAS! Besides the point, you can tell that he put a lot of thought into performing this piece with regards to its origin, style, touch, mainly everything Dr. Phang engraves in our heads every day. Good post!
