Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir

I love this piece by Eric Whitacre and this recording is spectacular. This was his second "vitual choir", the first of which performed "Lux Aurumque". Many thousands of videos were submitted and 2052 performances from 1752 singers from 58 countries were selected and combined to create this. I think this shows one positive impact of technology on music. The internet allowed these voices from all over the world that could never be combined otherwise to come together and create something beautiful across time and space. Enjoy :)

  1. Hey! We're singing "Lux Aurumque" with the Les Chanteurs choir here! I love that piece. I also sang it for All-State Honor's Choir here in Michigan. The virtual choir was a neat idea.

I'm not always too thrilled about Eric Whitacre, though. His music is very emotional but sometimes he seems gimmicky to me. Also his music sounds very similar across the board. He brings such unique ideas to the choral setting though.

  2. I smiled when I saw that you posted this video Caitlin. The band is playing the instrumental arrangement of this for the next concert in November. It really is a breath-taking piece.

I was looking up this piece last week to hear the band arrangement of it, but was surprised to come across this video first. I got chills watching this video. It's really amazing what technology can allow us to do. I think this video is a prime exapmple of why music is one of the best ways to connect people across the world.
