"Dove sono" is from Le Nozze de Figaro, by Mozart. This was the first opera I had ever seen. There are so many great songs from this one, but I think this is one of the best. Renee Flemming sings this, probably my favorite soprano. If you are interested in opera, I think Nozze is a great opera to start with because it's light-hearted and comedic but also has some amazing music and moments in it.
I would be surprised if you hadn't heard this one. This is "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's Turandot. I had not heard of this aria till I did a musical analysis of it at a vocal arts camp. This is one the "top ten" arias. It's extremely powerful - especially when Pavoratti sings it! Even if you are not a fan of opera I think you will enjoy this one!
I hope you enjoy these opera gems!
The Marriage of Figaro was the first opera I had ever seen as well. I would probably agree in saying that the song is the best from the opera (but then again, I know nothing about opera :P). Renee is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteI think I enjoyed the Marriage of Figaro more than your second song. But....Marriage of Figaro is the only opera I've seen. XD He's a great singer, and he adds to much emotion and dynamics to this song. I really like it. Thanks Joey!!!!
Thanks for posting these. I was never a fan of opera until last year when I really started studying it formally in music appreciation. Arias like these are truly a unique musical experience for the audience and performers since there is such a high level of emotion and drama involved. And I like Sarah really enjoy "Figaro". Who doesn't enjoy a good Mozart opera?
ReplyDeleteTwo of my favorites! Of course, one of the great miracles of all music is the second-act finale of "Figaro."
ReplyDeleteI love Renee Flemming in this video. She is such an amazing vocalist and is able to portray such range of emotions while maintaining the integrity of the piece. I too have recently discovered my love of opera and the Marriage of Figaro is also one of my favorites. Thanks Joey!
